6th International Chamber Music Competition of Lyon for Strings Quartets

Candidates must send by e-mail a complete application file with the following documents:
– Duly completed application form, specifying the works selected by the quartet
– Curriculum vitae of the quartet as well as of each musician, in French or English
– A recent photograph of the quartet (black and white, 300 dpi, size min. 10 cm x 15 cm)
– Picture (jpg file) of identity card or passport of each member of the quartet.
– Application fee of 200 ? (non refundable if the quartet withdraws from the competition).

Qualifying round – Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October 2009
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Two pieces compose the first round.
1. Given piece
Georges Onslow : Quartet n° 25 Op.50 – Edtions Sym?trie - Available on February 2009, in music shops.
2. Chosen piece
• Joseph Haydn : one quartet from Op.64 or Op.76
• Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart : one of the last ten quartets :
G Major K387, D minor K421, Eb Major K428, Bb Major K458, A Major K 464, C Major
K465, D Major K499, D Major K575, Bb Major K589, F Major K590

Demi-finale – Wednesday 28th October
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Three different pieces from three different periods compose the semi-final round.
1. Chosen piece
• One piece written after 1990, 10 minutes duration maximum, chosen by the candidates
2. Chosen piece
• Maurice Ravel : Quartet in F Major Op.35
• Claude Debussy : Quartet in G Minor
3. Chosen piece
• Beethoven : one of his quartets, excepted Op. 18 and the Great Fugue in Bb Major Op.133

Finale – Thursday 29th October
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Two pieces compose the final round.

Henri Dutilleux : Ainsi la nuit, composed in 1976-77
2. Chosen piece
One quartet from the list above:
